Happy Labor Day!

We're going to be out of town this week, celebrating the 90th birthday of my grandma on my dad's side.

I hope everybody has a nice Labor Day weekend, and we'll have a tune for you belatedly next week. We travel on Monday of next week, so you'll likely have it some time on Tuesday.

Until then,
The Educated Fool

Tune of the Week for 08/24/09 -- Megadeth, High Speed Dirt

Hey, hey, hey!

I just recently finished "drafting" my fantasy football team with friends from my high school years. We use Fanball for our league. It works okay, although I like the look of Yahoo!'s a little better.

In honor of the approaching football season (although it's already been on full steam for many weeks now in Canada), I'm playing this tune -- mainly for its name. I think I once played it on my old blog. The ending is the best part, so stick around for it!

Until next week,
The Educated Fool

Tune of the Week for 08/17/09 -- Rage Against the Machine, Fistful of Steel

The lyrics of this bad baby are pretty corny, but the tune rocks. Tom Morello's innovations on the guitar are significant in my mind. He made that thing sound like a new instrument, and I enjoy listening to it.

Four white guys (err, one half-latino and another half-Italian, to be exact) with one of them screaming, "Gotta fistful of STEEEEEL!"? Yeah, whatever.

Until next week,
The Educated Fool

Tune of the Week for 08/10/09 -- Rage Against the Machine, Killing in the Name

Ya ready for a little Rage? This album saved my emotional butt more than a time or two. One of these fellows' finest recordings, in my opinion.

Make sure you listen to the end of this baby, by the way. It ends way more satisfyingly than the radio-edited version you hear on "alternative" traditional radio stations.

And do that dance 'round your room you feel like doing when you hear this. You'll feel better.

I've also included a couple of photos of myself and my fine wife from Six Flags Great America. We took one day out a few weeks ago. I think we both look kinda wasted.78 (On his own, Miles just typed the "78" at the end of the last sentence. Talented cat, lemme tell you. He likes to lounge on my desk under the heat of the desk lamp while I work. He's also recently discovered the birds out back of our third-floor flat. We have a birdfeeder, and he loves to keep them on their toes, err, feet.)

Video Tune of the Week for 08/03/09 -- Coheed and Cambria, The Suffering

I'm posting a video. Yay. It's of a band that I actually dig, although I'm NOT really into the dude's voice. And they're a little too emo for me. But I like their sound by and large. I've got this CD, and it's a decent listen throughout.

Coheed and Cambria is a "concept band", as opposed to a concept album. Each CD tells its part of the story that the band itself is telling through its music. I haven't gotten into the story up to this point and I've not had the time.

Okay, here it is. Until next week,
The Educated Fool
